Focus On Film with Shane Gutierrez

Thursdays June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25 (5 Classes) 5:45PM – 8:15PM

Film or analog, as it is referred to nowadays, is making a resurgence of late. Yes, you can still get film! Each type of film has a specific look to it, whether it is black & white, color, formulated to produce beautiful skin color, or yield a vivid color palette. There are plenty of new players in the production of film, giving us funky color, or extreme graininess. So why try film? Film will get you to slow down and be more contemplative, similar to using a tripod. Using film also will show you just how good you are fundamentally. Since there is no screen to review your image immediately, you will have to be confident in understanding exposure, lighting, and composition. This class will teach you about your individual camera, film choice, using filters, along with the fundamentals listed above. All in 4 weeks! We will visit different locations to photograph around the state. If you don’t have a film camera tucked away in a box somewhere, I have some that can be borrowed for the duration of the class. You will need to purchase 5 rolls of 135-36 exposure film. I recommend the 5 rolls are the same type of film. Film processing/proofs will need to be finished weekly. Information on film choices for this class, along with where to get your film processed, will be provided via email once you have enrolled. So, find that old film camera, dust it off, polish the lens, make sure you have a fresh battery, and get ready for some summer fun.  Supplies: If you don’t have a film camera tucked away in a box somewhere, I have some that can be borrowed for the duration of the class.
