Decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf, and other decorative elements. The surfaces that can be used for decoupage are metal, glass or wood. I will select a piece to be worked on. We will be using a variety of craft elements to create a piece of fine art.Decoupage has a long history. Even before the time of Christ, artist from eastern Siberia decorated the tombs of their ancestors with cutout felt figures and designs. In the 12th century the Chinese peasants were creating paper cutouts to decorate lanterns, gift boxes, etc. and in the 17th century this form of art came to Europe in the form of furniture decoration. Many common people could not afford to have hand crafted craved inlayed furniture so they began to decorate it with printed cutouts.
