Where do you live?

I live in the Wickford area of North Kingstown, RI.

How long have you been a member?

I joined WAA in 2012 and became a JAM member in 2013.

Do you currently volunteer?

Over the years I have volunteered periodically. Being a member in several art associations I have attempted to do a little across the board. At WAA I do have an upcoming project coming up I am looking forward to helping out with.

How long have you been a JAM?

I became a JAM for my watercolor work in 2013.

How would you describe your artwork?

I primarily focus on watercolor but have also recently dabbled in oils. My work is representational with a painterly quality. My subject matter is mostly landscapes or structures given that most of my painting is done in plain air. My studio work affords me more opportunity to experiment and do more layering.

From where do you find your inspiration?

Given that I do lots of plein air painting, my inspiration comes from being outdoors, in nature and chasing light! I also love to travel, experiencing a new place through painting my observations. I like to paint scenes that make me feel good or that have a story to tell.

What is the most important thing that you want viewers to take away from your artwork?

I think that we all experience art differently. I can only hope that my work might resonate with someone in some way. I don’t have any particular message to say in my work.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I have recently been considering my goals as an artist. In light of this, my husband advised that I paint for myself. It is very freeing to to be less concerned about “producing” and thinking about market demand!

What is the most important skill you should have as an artist?

Patience for the process to unfold. But also to have confidence. We are often self-critical, comparing ourselves to others which can get in the way of expressing ourselves with certainty.

What is your favorite thing about the Wickford Art Association/ about being a member/Favorite Beach, Food, Restaurant?

I like the atmosphere of WAA’s gallery space and the community of artists. Some of my other favorite activities are camping, traveling and hiking – all of which lead me to more painting, of course!

What do you enjoy most about your artistry/being an artist?

Painting gives me a meditative practice that requires my focus and clears my mind of life’s distractions. Art has also led me to meet and develop many wonderful friendships with other fellow artists.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

Yes! I was thrilled to have a painting accepted into the Color Me Green Exhibit, juried by Sam Allerton Green! I will be dropping it off to WAA next week!
