How long have you been a WAA member/Juried Artist Member?

Around 30 years in watercolor and 8 years in oil

How would you describe your artwork?

I’m a plein air artist. My passion is painting outdoors. I travel to plein air events throughout New England and Bermuda and exhibit my original oil and watercolor paintings. I do not sell reproductions.

From where do you find your inspiration?

Outdoors and nature. Painting outside allows me to see relationships between colors, textures and values. Nature is always different and you’re painting the air around the object and the atmosphere. I love the islands.

What is the most important thing you want viewers to take away from your artwork? JOY! I want the viewers to finish what I started meaning feel my passion, follow my decisions and feel my brushstrokes.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Art is a luxury and if you want to make art, you better find a way to pay for it.

What is the most important skill you should have as an artist? As a visual artist, I think you need to learn how to SEE. Start with the negative space. The skills will come after you find your voice. The ideas matter so paint, draw, sculpt etc what ignites your passion.

What is your favorite thing about WAA?

The Festival! It’s outside, well done and one of the best I’ve ever attended! About being a WAA member? The opportunities to learn and exhibit in a friendly community that supports your vision.

What do you enjoy most about your artistry?

Freedom! The freedom to paint what I want, to explore and paint breathtaking vistas, charming architecture. I like to talk with people who appreciate what I do. I like meeting other artists and sharing creative tips. I love mixing paint colors.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

Providence Flea Market, Barrington Arts Festival, Mystic Art Festival (in the apple orchard) Cuttyhunk Plein Air Festival, Chatham Arts Festival, Ocean Park Plein Air and the Wickford Art Festival
