Where do you live?

I live in Newport but my studio, Beach Studios, is located on Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown

How long have you been a member?

15 years but maybe longer.

Do you currently volunteer?

Yes. I am on the Exhibitions and Juried Artist Members Committees.  Prior to this I was the Education Coordinator from 2015 to 2022.

How long have you been a JAM?

Since 2015

How would you describe your artwork?

My passion for printmaking began in my junior year of college.  The rich black lines, textures and tactile responses of the printmaking process had an immediate impact on my creative thinking and way of working.  I found that I could experiment, playing with the materials and challenging myself in ways that other art mediums did not offer me.

My work is greatly influenced by my instinctual responses to my art materials and chosen printmaking process. The resulting imagery is created through the development of many layers in an additive and subtractive way. I love the often-unexpected outcomes in printmaking and working them into the final image.

I am inspired by nature – its organic lines, shapes, forms, movements and textures.  Atmospheric changes in color and light, the resulting patterns and shadows they create are a rich source of subject matter for me.

From where do you find your inspiration?

Nature and my daily observations of my surroundings.

What is the most important thing that you want viewers to take away from your artwork?

I would like the viewer to become engaged with my work and spend time looking at it.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t be afraid to experiment and be responsive to the materials you use.

What is the most important skill you should have as an artist?

Drawing and composition.

What is your favorite thing about the Wickford Art Association/ about being a member?

The people! I have met so many wonderful people at WAA who have enriched my life in countless ways.

What do you enjoy most about your artistry/being an artist?

Someone recently asked me if I was still “doing my art?”. After getting over the initial shock of the question I replied it is all I have ever done. I can’t imagine doing anything else. Art is who I am. It has defined my life and I how I look at the world. And I am an Art Educator and love sharing my knowledge with others. I have taught drawing and printmaking for the past 40 years to adults at the Newport Art Museum, Wickford Art Association and in my studio.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

I am currently in a Boston Printmakers Members Exhibition at the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA. I will be in another group show with 19 on Paper, of which I am an elected member, in November at the Barrington Public Library. I have been invited to participate in the Attleboro Arts Museum “Focus on the Past” Exhibition in January 2026. I have also been invited to be a part of the 25th Anniversary Exhibition at the Grimshaw Gudewicz Art Gallery at Bristol Community College in January 2026.
