Exhibit Registration Guidelines

Please preview the following guidelines BEFORE registering your artwork.

Work entered in Judged/Juried and Member-Only Exhibits must be current fine art (less than 3 years old). 2D works must be no larger than 48 inches on the longest side including the frame. Works must be original creations by the artist and not created under a teacher’s instruction. Any photography that references or excerpts work of another creator must be referenced in title. Crafts, diptychs, triptychs, etc. are not accepted. Fine art is accepted in a variety of mediums based on the specific requirements described in the Call for Entry for each judged/juried exhibit. Functional fine art is accepted on a limited basis and will be juried to the same standard as non-functional art and must reflect the individual themes of each exhibit (see more below).

Artwork shown in any previous WAA exhibits will not be accepted.

All two-dimensional works must be wired with d-rings attached to the frame for installation in WAA’s gallery space. If a piece requires special installation, artists must receive approval from the Executive Director in advance of registering. Works must be framed or presented on gallery wrapped canvas (at least 1.5 inches deep) with a finished edge. Works on paper must be under glass or plexi. No saw-tooth hangers of any kind are permitted.

Gallery wrapped canvas or standout mounts, should be at least 1.5 inches deep with finished sides and no visible staples, with proper weight-bearing wire attached to the canvas stretcher.

Photographs printed on metal, acrylic, and/or wood can be accepted with proper weightbearing wire attached to the framing mechanism prepared by the framer.

Sculptures must be easy to move.

If artwork is not prepared according to Wickford Art Association standards, the artwork will not be accepted for hanging on our gallery walls and will be excluded from the exhibit.

Fine Functional Art – a limited number of functional fine art works may be accepted to judged/juried exhibits in the following categories:

  • Ceramics (functional pieces made by shaping and firing). Exhibition of ceramics works accepted to judged/juried exhibits will require coordination between artist and gallery staff to ensure the safety of displayed work as the gallery is a multi-function space hosting exhibits, classes, and workshop
  • Fiber and Paper Arts (works made of fiber and/or handmade paper– wearable, hangable, or otherwise usable). Exhibition of any fiber or paper work accepted will require coordination between artist and gallery staff for proper display.
  • Jewelry (produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic, or other materials). Exhibition of any jewelry accepted will require coordination between artist and gallery staff for proper display and security. Jewelry mounts must be provided by the artist.
  • Furniture or Wooden Works (hand-tooled or machine-works — turned or carved). If a work of furniture has been accepted into a judged/juried exhibit but it exceeds gallery capacity, WAA will refund the artist the registration fee.

WAA hosts two SMALL WORKS EXHIBITS during the year – the size limitation for these two exhibits is 14 inches on the longest side – frame included. All other guidelines/policies stated here apply to this exhibit as well.

All artwork must be identified on the back of each piece with artist’s name, title of the artwork and price, PRIOR TO drop-off to the gallery.

WAA registration staff is not responsible for cleaning, wiring or touching up your artwork. Your mat(s) must be clean, your glass undamaged and if your frame is dented, scratched or otherwise damaged, it is unsellable and will not be accepted into the exhibit.

WAA is not liable for lost or damaged work and recommends artists have their work insured.

The WAA reserves the right to refuse entry to works that do not fit its community standards. ALL ART MUST BE FOR SALE. “Not for Sale” (NFS) or “Price on Request” (POR) are not allowed.

Entry Fees are Non-Refundable. There may be specific guidelines on each Call for Entry and Exhibit Prospectus. Please review the prospectus carefully.

WAA collects a 3% processing fee before calculating the commission on works sold.  Members will receive: 80% JAM members, 70% GAM members, 60% for non-members; commissions are paid monthly.

Artists accepted into a juried/judged exhibit will be notified by emailed within 2 weeks following the close of registration. We recommend programming WAAexhibits@gmail.com into your email contact list so our messages do not bounce to spam/junk mail folders.

Awards will be posted on social media and in an eblast following the exhibit opening. Work must be collected by the deadline specified on each exhibit webpage. WAA has limited storage space — works left behind risk being damaged. A $5 per day fee will be required for art left in the gallery past the specified deadline unless prior arrangements have been made with gallery staff.
