SUMMER CAMP, Exploring Contemporary Artists with Emily Bennison

Ages 6-12

Monday-Friday, June 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 2026 (From 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

This summer at the Wickford Art Association, young artists are invited to dive into a vibrant, hands-on exploration of the contemporary art world. This isn’t just a traditional craft camp; it’s a creative laboratory where students connect with the powerful voices of today to find their own.

A Focus on Contemporary Visionaries:  Students will draw direct inspiration from a diverse lineup of groundbreaking artists whose work defines the modern era. We will explore the narrative textiles of Bisa Butler, the regal and botanical portraiture of Kehinde Wiley, and the conceptual photography of Cindy Sherman. The curriculum also dives into the high-energy, graphic lines of Keith Haring and the transformative, wearable sculptures of Nick Cave. By studying these icons, campers learn that art is a living, breathing conversation about identity, movement, and the world around them.

Our goal is to foster a supportive environment where “mistakes” are celebrated as discoveries. Each project is designed to help campers hone their foundational skills while ensuring their final pieces are deeply meaningful and uniquely their own. By the end of the session, every student will have developed a portfolio that reflects a newfound confidence in their creative voice.

Be sure to pack a snack for your camper!
