Scratchboard in Color and Black & White with Laura Victore

Saturday, July 25th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (1 class with 1 Hour Lunch Break)

Ages 16 – Adult (Fun for everyone!)

In this workshop you will learn various techniques in using professional grade Scratchboards. We will review tools and how to apply reference imagery as well as how to apply abstract designs in black and white to this versatile medium. You will also explore how to mix inks and create a variety of colors to add to your textures to achieve a final 11”x14” scratchboard rendering that you will take home. The instructor will provide many necessary materials which you will take home as a kit, so you may continue your creative artist journey using this exquisite drawing material.

Professional grade Scratchboard is made of a thin layer of black india ink over an absorbent white kaolin clay layer which can be etched into using a variety of sharp tools. Scratchboard can be used to yield highly detailed, precise and verified textured artworks. We will also apply Dr. Ph. Martins Fine Art Watercolor to enhance the artworks. The final works are also easy to frame, since the clay and ink layers are on Masonite board.
