Mandala Making as Practice & Art with Kate Tsamourtzis

Class starts with a brief overview of mandalas’ significance in areas of art, nature and
culture. Attendees are welcome to participate in a gentle (3-5 minute) grounding
meditation prior to a review of basic symmetry techniques and color theory. Class is led
through basic aspects of mandala features, followed by time to practice with continued
instructor support. Class ends with group reflection, feedback, and individuals sharing
work at their discretion.
In this 1.5 hour workshop, explore the practice of mandala art through perspectives of
technical skill and as a mindfulness tool. You’ll learn foundational techniques in
symmetry and color theory while also being welcomed to slow down and tune into the
meditative process of creativity. Whether a beginner or experienced artist, this session
is a chance to reconnect with your creativity and leave with technical growth.
Materials student will need to provide:
Please bring any sketch books, journals, or paper to practice shapes, symmetry
movements, and/or note color combinations.
Attendees are welcome to bring preferred markers or acrylic paint markers.
Materials provided by instructor:
Compass and pencils, erasers, rulers, 12×12” canvas panels, acrylic markers
All materials, with exception of canvas panels, are kindly asked to be returned for use in
future classes.
