The 7th Annual Poetry & Art theme is

Harmony

Wickford Art Association is continuing the process of ekphrasis – writing inspired by art – in the 7th Annual Poetry & Art. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. This exhibit will showcase 40 works of art and 40 original poems inspired by those works of art. For this exhibit, forty pieces of fine art will be selected by juror Berge Zobian of Gallery Z. Deadline to submit art and poetry is April 15, 2019.
Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of artwork with the theme of “Harmony”. Juror Berge Zobian will select 40 piece of fine art which will then be assigned to accepted poets.
Poets are invited to submit poems. Submitted poems are a poet’s “portfolio, which will be juried. Accepted poets will be asked to create a new, original poem inspired by your assigned piece of artwork. Fine art and original poetry will be displayed side by side in the gallery during the exhibit.
A limited-edition, full color, professionally designed book cataloging the exhibit will be published. Thrilling news is that the 6 previous Poetry & Art books (2013 to 2017) have been accepted into The Poets House library in New York City, one of the premiere poetry libraries in the country. The 2019 book will be a part of their library collection as well and will be on special display at the Poets House in the fall.

Poets and artists will not meet until just prior to the opening, heightening the excitement for this annual exhibit at the Wickford Art Association. All poems will be read during the opening reception on Friday, September 13, 2019 with artwork digitally displayed under the tent located by Narragansett Bay. The opening reception is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you!
