DESCRIPTION:Painting Floral Abundance with Sarah Hirsch \nWednesdays\, May 20\, June 3\, 10\, 17 and July 8 from 3:00pm – 6:00pm (5 classes) \n**Welcoming Adults and Teens/Intermediate and Advanced** \nThere’s nothing quite like the  show nature puts on in summer\, with flowers blooming n a joyful riot of new colors each week! This painting class is mixed media and mixed level: you are welcome and welcome to use oils. acrylic\, gouache\, or watercolor – or swap around week to week. \nWe’ll bring in fresh flowers from the garden and our favorate photos\, and learn strategies about painting from life and from references.  We will learn color theory\, mixing\, and elements of compostion and apply it all to a bounty of blooms.  \nMaterials List (students bring their supplies) \nSince the class is a mix of different paint media\, each student will be responsible for bringing the supplies they need fro their paint choice. For example\, if you would like to wor with watercolors and inks\, you will need to bring your watercolor paints\, so brushes\, a pad of paper\, ink pens\, a pencil to sketch\, etc.  If you are working with oils or acrylics\, please bring your paints\, palette\, brushes\, and a couple canvases or a pad of canvas paper or  prepared boards. \nThe number of paintings depends entirely on each person’s mood and speed each day; however\, it is recommended to have enough paper/canvases to paint on about 1-2 per class\, in case things get wet and you want to hop over onto a new painting while waiting for one to dry.  So for the five weeks\, a supply of between 5-10 surfaces of different sizes. \n$200 Members | $230 Non-members  \nCLASS REGISTRATION – CURRENT MEMBERS \nCLASS REGISTRATION – NON-MEMBERS

We will explore the narrative textiles of Bisa Butler\, the regal and botanical portraiture of Kehinde Wiley\, and the conceptual photography of Cindy Sherman. The curriculum also dives into the high-energy\, graphic lines of Keith Haring and the transformative\, wearable sculptures of Nick Cave. DESCRIPTION:3-Day Plein Air Painting Workshop with Sam Allerton Green & Bill Lane \nJuly 15\, 16\, 17  from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (3 day workshop) \nSam Allerton Green & Bill Lane teach together during their workshops. They both start with a demo of the same scene so that students can witness and learn from their process on identical subjects. Sam will paint in oils\, Bill in watercolors.  Each day will be held in a different location in the Wickford area.  *Locations will be announced closer to the workshop. \nTheir intro and demo will start promptly at 9:00 am on location and should finish around 10:45-11:00. The students will then paint at the same general location and pick a scene that speaks to them. Sam & Bill will visit each student throughout the day answering any questions and providing suggestions and guidance. Around 3:15 pm students will gather with their pieces–finished or not–for an informal crit. DESCRIPTION:Summer Pastels with Ann Bianchi \nSundays\, July 19 & July 26 from 11:00AM–2:00PM (2 classes) \nAll experience levels are welcome. \nEnjoy this two-day Pastel Art class with  Ann\, which offers participants the opportunity to create using various types of chalk and oil pastels while exploring  many pastel techniques and unique styles. \nWhether you love working with rich colors or quiet tones\, this class provides a welcoming environment to learn foundational skills such as layout drawing\, color blending\, layering for depth\, creating smooth gradients\, and building texture through expressive mark-making. Ann will offer guided instruction and demonstrations throughout. \nWe’ll begin with abstract exercises to help you become familiar with each pastel type\, then move into practice sessions to discover which materials you enjoy most. DESCRIPTION:Scratchboard in Color and Black & White with Laura Victore \nSaturday\, July 25th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (1 class with 1 Hour Lunch Break) \nAges 16 – Adult (Fun for everyone!)  \nIn this workshop you will learn various techniques in using professional grade Scratchboards. We will review tools and how to apply reference imagery as well as how to apply abstract designs in black and white to this versatile medium. You will also explore how to mix inks and create a variety of colors to add to your textures to achieve a final 11”x14” scratchboard rendering that you will take home. The instructor will provide many necessary materials which you will take home as a kit\, so you may continue your creative artist journey using this exquisite drawing material. \nProfessional grade Scratchboard is made of a thin layer of black india ink over an absorbent white kaolin clay layer which can be etched into using a variety of sharp tools. Scratchboard can be used to yield highly detailed\, precise and verified textured artworks. We will also apply Dr. Ph. Martins Fine Art Watercolor to enhance the artworks. SUMMARY:Textile Shibori Designs with Ann Bianchi
DESCRIPTION:Textile Shibori Designs with Ann Bianchi \nSunday\, August 2nd from 10:00AM–2:00PM (1 class) \nFabrics from natural cellulose fibers (cottons\, linens and silks) will be our “canvases” as we experiment with historical and cultural resist methods. Working in the styles of Japanese Arashi Shibori and Itajime Shibori\, we’ll add colorants from liquid acrylics to white cloth for fantastic results.  Beautifully prepared cloth will be matted in class and prepared for framing as a piece of art.  In this workshop Ann will provide multiple demonstrations and guidance as students work together on each method while also enjoying some historical cultural information shared during demonstrations. Use different fabric sizes in the workshop and note the various effects.  Be prepared to be amazed with your results\, have fun and witness colors merging onto the textiles as they take on a life of their own!   No prior experience needed. In this special class\, participants will first create their own stunning floral arrangements\, focusing on Dahlias alongside some other seasonal favorites from Denise’s garden with complementary greenery in clear glass vases.  Denise\, your floral grower and guide\, will demonstrate each step of the arranging process\, helping everyone create a piece that feels personal and expressive\, and you’ll learn from her about the growing process behind Dahlias. Flowers\, fillers\, vases\, marbles for stem support\, and FloraLife will all be provided. After finishing their arrangements\, participants will join Ann\, your art instructor\, for a relaxed art session in drawing and painting\, where she will guide you through basic techniques to capture the shapes\, colors\, and personality of your arrangement. \nStudents are encouraged to use their own art materials to capture the beauty of their arrangements in favorite styles. DESCRIPTION:Painting with Pastels with Lori Jeremiah \nSeptember 21 & 22\, Monday & Tuesday from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM (2 classes) \nAll experience levels are welcome. \nFew mediums allow you to be as free and spontaneous as pastel. Because it is essentially pure pigment that you apply directly to paper\, you can achieve luminosity and texture in your paintings. Pastel can be beautifully and easily used to render light and color in every subject and style. With inpriration from the Land and Sea\, elements of design with emphasis on color\, value and composition will be included along with the basic fundamentals of pastel painting. Students do not need prior pastel or drawing experience. \nStudents bring the following to class:  \nSuggested Materials List\nDrawing pencil\, Charcoal pencil\, Kneaded eraser\, Drawing board or foam core\, a little larger than your paper\, Exacto-knife (or blade for trimming hard pastels)\, Variety of pastels: (bring whatever you have): Hard pastels such as NuPastels\, Soft pastels\, Optional: Pastel pencils and fixative\nPaper: There are many brands of pastels paper on the market. If you have a favorite pastel paper\, please bring it.
