DESCRIPTION:Fiber Arts & Sewing for Homeschoolers with Emily Bennison \nWednesdays\, April 1\, 8\, 15\, 29 and May 6\, 13\, 20\, 27  (8 weeks) from 10:00 am – 11:30 am  \nStudents are encouraged to continue working on their sewing projects in process for the first few classes and then… into an exploration of Fiber Arts! \n Explore the diverse techniques of fiber art\, including weaving\, wool felting\, fabric dying\, Knitting\, and embroidery. This class will emphasize process-based discovery\, encouraging curiosity and problem-solving as students navigate new tools and techniques.  Alongside technical development\, the course highlights contemporary textile artists and are encouraged to use personal narratives\, cultural references\, and sensory experience as inspiration for their creations. \n$200 (+$10 materials fee paid directly to instructor on first class) \nCLASS REGISTRATION

DESCRIPTION:Painting Floral Abundance with Sarah Hirsch \nWednesdays\, May 20\, June 3\, 10\, 17 and July 8 from 3:00pm – 6:00pm (5 classes) \n**Welcoming Adults and Teens/Intermediate and Advanced** \nThere’s nothing quite like the  show nature puts on in summer\, with flowers blooming n a joyful riot of new colors each week! This painting class is mixed media and mixed level: you are welcome and welcome to use oils. acrylic\, gouache\, or watercolor – or swap around week to week. \nWe’ll bring in fresh flowers from the garden and our favorate photos\, and learn strategies about painting from life and from references.  We will learn color theory\, mixing\, and elements of compostion and apply it all to a bounty of blooms.  \nMaterials List (students bring their supplies) \nSince the class is a mix of different paint media\, each student will be responsible for bringing the supplies they need fro their paint choice. For example\, if you would like to wor with watercolors and inks\, you will need to bring your watercolor paints\, so brushes\, a pad of paper\, ink pens\, a pencil to sketch\, etc.  If you are working with oils or acrylics\, please bring your paints\, palette\, brushes\, and a couple canvases or a pad of canvas paper or  prepared boards. \nThe number of paintings depends entirely on each person’s mood and speed each day; however\, it is recommended to have enough paper/canvases to paint on about 1-2 per class\, in case things get wet and you want to hop over onto a new painting while waiting for one to dry.  So for the five weeks\, a supply of between 5-10 surfaces of different sizes. \n$200 Members | $230 Non-members  \nCLASS REGISTRATION – CURRENT MEMBERS \nCLASS REGISTRATION – NON-MEMBERS

After selecting seven thread colors for seven layered passes\, you’ll learn simple techniques and tips to build a striking design while exploring color and pattern. With chill background music setting the tone\, the class encourages a calm\, creative atmosphere where the\nprocess becomes almost meditative. I’ll be there throughout to help you over the learning curve and support you at every step. This isn’t just a traditional craft camp; it’s a creative laboratory where students connect with the powerful voices of today to find their own.\nA Focus on Contemporary Visionaries:  Students will draw direct inspiration from a diverse lineup of groundbreaking artists whose work defines the modern era. We will explore the narrative textiles of Bisa Butler\, the regal and botanical portraiture of Kehinde Wiley\, and the conceptual photography of Cindy Sherman. The curriculum also dives into the high-energy\, graphic lines of Keith Haring and the transformative\, wearable sculptures of Nick Cave. By studying these icons\, campers learn that art is a living\, breathing conversation about identity\, movement\, and the world around them.\nOur goal is to foster a supportive environment where “mistakes” are celebrated as discoveries. Each project is designed to help campers hone their foundational skills while ensuring their final pieces are deeply meaningful and uniquely their own. After choosing from heels\, cowboy boots or high top sneakers you’ll learn the techniques of taking beaten plant fiber to “pull” sheets that are applied to the forms. In class 2 the shoe is removed from the dried cast paper and decorated. DESCRIPTION:Scratchboard in Color and Black & White with Laura Victore \nSaturday\, July 25th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (1 class with 1 Hour Lunch Break) \nAges 16 – Adult (Fun for everyone!)  \nIn this workshop you will learn various techniques in using professional grade Scratchboards. We will review tools and how to apply reference imagery as well as how to apply abstract designs in black and white to this versatile medium. You will also explore how to mix inks and create a variety of colors to add to your textures to achieve a final 11”x14” scratchboard rendering that you will take home. The instructor will provide many necessary materials which you will take home as a kit\, so you may continue your creative artist journey using this exquisite drawing material. \nProfessional grade Scratchboard is made of a thin layer of black india ink over an absorbent white kaolin clay layer which can be etched into using a variety of sharp tools. Scratchboard can be used to yield highly detailed\, precise and verified textured artworks. We will also apply Dr. Ph. Martins Fine Art Watercolor to enhance the artworks.
