For this adult class we’ll carefully study and draw nests. Using graphite or more simply\, pencil\, we’ll learn about subtractive or reductive drawing. We’ll gain an understanding of setting a ground and erasing highlights to create an image as well as building it up with marks. We will complete a detailed study of the amazing texture and interweaving of grasses\, sticks and other found items in nests. We’ll look at the contrast between light and shadow and focus on negative spaces within a nest. Through observation and the use of graphite\, we’ll learn to really look at some of nature’s most exquisite handiwork as we create our own art and realize that nests are works of art as well. DESCRIPTION:Seascapes and Water with Sarah Hirsch \nWednesdays\, August 6\, 13\, 20\, 27  from 3:00pm-6:00pm (4 classes) \nSeascapes\, breaking waves\, fluid motion\, gentle reflections in a salt marsh\, and the sun’s enticing glitter over river stones — how do you approach painting water? Water is one part movement and the other part light\, and where we live\, its beauty is a constant inspiration.\n\nIn this mixed-level painting class\, we’ll cover methods of composition\, color mixing and theory\, and a general overview of the physics at play when we look at water. Oils\, watercolors\, gouache and acrylics all welcome.\n\nEach class will have individualized support and instruction as well as friendly group critiques.\n\nStudents’s choice of painting materials – you’ll need a complete set of paints\, paint brushes\, and a palette or palette paper. October brings us so many things to observe and draw! We’ll study natural objects such as fall foliage\, vegetables and seed pods. From acorns and apples to pumpkins and pine cones\, we’ll marvel at nature’s designs and study the complexity of the life around us as we create art inspired by these objects. Our observation skills will improve as we carefully record what we observe using graphite then colored pencils and finally watercolor. This class is designed for anyone who wants to better see the beauty of nature and use their creativity to study it. \nOnly pencils and erasers are needed for the first class as we’ll discuss other materials as needed also please bring a magnifying glass if you have one.  Materials that you may choose to use:  pencils\, 2B\, 4B and 6B\, erasers\, fine point felt pen\, watercolor (an inexpensive tray is fine) and brushes\, colored pencils. DESCRIPTION:Mixed Media Collage with Ann Bianchi \nTuesdays\, December 2 and 9\, from  12:00-3:00 PM (2 Classes) \nCollage-art with fabrics\, papers\, paints and mediums is colorful and textural with lots of surprises!  We’ll create with unlimited materials\, and you’ll discover how to confidently select them for your individual artwork. Enjoy the freedom of making choices as you design while using hands-on techniques. Together we’ll enjoy learning many methods as we practice first in an abstract style. You’ll then work from your favorite photographs and personal selections of choice. Enjoy individual assistance from Ann with any planning and sketch drawing. DESCRIPTION:Soft Sculptures Inspired by Art History Portraits with Ann Bianchi \nSaturdays\, December 6\, 13 –  10:00AM–1:30PM (2 classes) \nExpress yourself and experience the art of painting and sewing soft sculptures inspired by your favorite Art History artists and portraits they created.  \nPrior to class one\, choose a favorite Artist and a favorite portrait they created. In the first class\, we’ll either freehand the portrait with pencil onto white cotton fabric or trace an enlarged copy. You can choose from portraits in styles like Cubism\, Impressionism\, Abstract Art\, Expressionism or any you prefer. Then paint your portrait with acrylic paints and add additions such as buttons\, beads and other creations to make it uniquely yours! Sew by hand and machine with Ann’s support\, fill with pillow stuffing\, and stitch closed \, creating soft sculptures that make wonderful original gifts. \n$10.00 includes all supplies including white fabric and all sewing supplies\, acrylic paints and brushes\, unique embellishments\, pillow stuffing\, tracing/carbon paper and sewing machine use\, including easy instructor sewing demonstrations for all.  \n  \n$125 Members | $155 Non-members | $10 Supply Fee \nCLASS REGISTRATION – CURRENT MEMBERS \nCLASS REGISTRATION – NON-MEMBERS
