DESCRIPTION:Drawing to Completion: Improve Your Painting by Drawing with Betsey MacDonald \nMonday\, October 6th from 1:00-4:00 PM (1 Class) \nBetsey’s students are enjoying this class immensely\, so we have added an additional date!  New students please feel free to jump in for this one session\, you will enjoy and learn!  Current students are welcome to continue working with Betsey on your projects in process for another three hour class.  Betsey is displaying some of her student’s artwork at the gallery for all to see.  Check it out! \nDegas said\, “If I could have had my own way\, I would have confined myself to black and white.” I LOVE to draw! It’s meditative. It teaches me to better see and understand my subject. It forces me to think about value and how I can create the illusion of 3-dimensional form on a 2-dimensional surface just using different grays. In this class\, we’ll confine ourselves to black and white but with a constant eye toward how our discoveries can be translated into color for our future paintings. We’ll draw to complete finished\, quality pieces. We’ll use simple graphite\, tortillons and erasers to create powerful\, intriguing drawings. Whether you love working with rich colors or quiet tones\, this class offers a welcoming environment to learn foundational techniques such as layout drawing with pastel\, color blending\, layering for depth\, creating smooth gradients\, and building texture through expressive mark-making. Ann will provide guided instructions and demonstrations. Through hands-on practice with oil\, chalk\, and pencil pastels you’ll choose your favorites and work from still life arrangements and/or your own photographs you bring. You’ll begin with practice techniques and complete your own unique works of art. DESCRIPTION:Watercolors for Autumn with Ann Bianchi \nSundays\, October 5\, 12\, 19 –  2:00PM – 4:00PM\, October 26 – 1:00PM– 3:00PM (4 classes) \nLet the beautiful Autumn colors flow.  We’ll begin by sampling color mixing using traditional methods and materials\, then venture into some exciting textural and shadow technique \, using watercolor tips and ideas with surprising results.   \nAlong with color instruction\, there will be drawing suggestions to enhance unique artwork and develop personal styles.  Let’s first create from a variety of  natural subjects on display incorporating practiced methods. Class takers will  then work from favorite photos or subjects of their choice. DESCRIPTION:Fall Back to Nature\, Drawing & Painting with Betsey MacDonald \nTuesdays\, October 28\, November 4\, 18\, 25 – 10:00AM–1:00PM (4 classes) \nNature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own”\, Charles Dickens. October brings us so many things to observe and draw! We’ll study natural objects such as fall foliage\, vegetables and seed pods. From acorns and apples to pumpkins and pine cones\, we’ll marvel at nature’s designs and study the complexity of the life around us as we create art inspired by these objects. Our observation skills will improve as we carefully record what we observe using graphite then colored pencils and finally watercolor. This class is designed for anyone who wants to better see the beauty of nature and use their creativity to study it. \nOnly pencils and erasers are needed for the first class as we’ll discuss other materials as needed also please bring a magnifying glass if you have one.  Materials that you may choose to use:  pencils\, 2B\, 4B and 6B\, erasers\, fine point felt pen\, watercolor (an inexpensive tray is fine) and brushes\, colored pencils. Heavy drawing paper or mixed media paper and watercolor paper.
