If It’s True Writing Workshop with Michael Klein
Saturday October 5th 12-3 and Sunday October 6th from 12-3
In these two sessions, we will look, firstly, at our own writing, do some exercises, and read some pages from great writers of great memoirs (Running in the Family by Michael Ondaatje and Wild by Cheryl Strayed, The Guardians by Sarah Manguso and others), some great essayists (Charles D’Ambrosio, Hilton Als, Brian Blanchfield, Truman Capote and others) and begin the conversation about how to extend both the anecdote and the essay forms into something more sustained: a memoir that reads both as revelation and as literature.
Materials student will need to provide: 3-5 double-spaced pages of a piece of writing (this is optional); and either a laptop or tablet, or a notebook and something to write with.
Members: $110 | Non-Members $140
