Plein Air Classes
Thursdays, October 15 – 29
Let’s get outside while the gettin’ is good to sketch, draw and paint. Join local illustrator Terry Kole to discover the wonderful nooks and crannies of the quaint Village of Wickford! Bring your camera, favorite drawing and waterbased mediums to create works in your sketchbook and on paper. Terry will assist you with planning your piece using good design techniques and teach you the best practices with your tools. This is a great class for beginners and folks who love to sketch and paint outdoors with like-minded people.
Class size limited to 6 students.
Tuesdays, September 8 – 29
This class is designed to help us create paintings that capture a “sense of place” not often found while painting from a photo. Through simplifying our focus, value sketching, and using a limited palette, we can get closer to achieving an atmospheric painting while minimizing the challenges of painting “en plein air”. Each week, a different location will be chosen from the lovely views in and around Wickford. A painting demo will start the class and both individual instruction and critique provided. Some previous experience with watercolor is highly recommended.
Tuesdays, September 15 – October 6
Over the bridges and through the hoods… we will be exploring the island scene. Off season is the time to explore Newport, less people, plenty of parking and spectacular places to paint! From Ocean Drive to Cliff Walk, we will paint the town. Trish will start each class with an oil paint demo and end with a sharing session. This class is appropriate for all levels, beginners are welcome as are all painting mediums.
Class size limited to 10 students.
Mondays, September 14 – October 5
Plein Air painting – Two days in Newport and two days in Jamestown.
Class size limited to 10 students.
Wednesdays, September 16 – October 7
Now is the time for plein air painting!! When the traffic is less around South County and we can go to more locations, not to mention the beautiful crisp air and autumn colors. A different location each week and all levels and mediums welcome. Each class, Trish will start with a few pointers about the location’s highlights, a painting demonstration and finish off with a sharing session or “thoughts for next time” critique.
On Line Classes
Wednesdays, September 16 – October 21
In this online class, illustrator Terry Kole will guide students through the ins and outs of creating art using a digital tablet with the Procreate app. Students must have a digital drawing tablet and a drawing stylus and be able to interact with the class on a laptop or desktop at the same time. Students will learn about layers, brushes, colors and other effects in Procreate and on their tablet. Each week the class assignment will cover something completely different. We will create cartoon characters, landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and animals in order to explore all the many brushes and techniques that our drawing tablets come with. These classes will be held on the Zoom platform.

Thursdays, September 17 – October 22
In this online course you will develop your own family of characters – their own world to live in – and their story to tell. We’ll take time to work on staging each square to make your cartoon strip more dynamic, and we’ll work on emotions in both facial expressions and body language. Do you already have a story to tell? Already have a cast of characters? Bring them along to class and let’s make nice, crisp black and white illustrations in graphic novel format. Do you already create your art on a digital tablet? Cool! You can use that instead of a sketchbook! These classes will be held on the Zoom platform.

Typical mosaic tools like Nippers, cutting tools or purchased glass or mosaic tiles are not required and other materials needed can be easily purchased at a hardware store.
