Lisa McAndrews-Morin
Lisa McAndrews-Morin is an Oil Painter from Rhode Island who describes her paintings as Representational with varying style.”Some of my paintings could be described as Impressionism, and others Realism. It just depends on what I want the painting to convey.” Fascinated by the varying effects of light on objects, colors, and color relationships, Lisa is endlessly inspired to capture and convey these effects with oil paint. She enjoys the challenge of painting a wide variety of subject matter, and always appreciates the story within the painting. Whether a landscape, seascape, still life or portrait, Lisa strives to produce a painterly representation, abundant with interesting brushstrokes, edge work, color, light/shadow effects and inviting composition.
Traditional oil paint is Lisa’s primary painting medium. “Once I tried painting with oils, they quickly became my favorite. Oil paint is luminous, sculptural, and just a joy to work with. The range of qualities oil paints possess affords the painter versatility in application, such as thin transparent washes, opaque thick/impasto brushstrokes, marks of abstract broken color, soft passages, edge variety, and more. These are all techniques I aim to incorporate in my paintings.”
A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Lisa adores the Ocean State and life with her husband, daughter, and boxer dog. She grew up in the town of Wickford, spending as much time as she could sailing the waters of Narragansett Bay with her family. This is likely where Lisa’s love of seascape paintings originated. Art has been present during every phase of Lisa’s life. From a very early age Lisa was enamored with art and would never miss the local Wickford Art Festival or any chance to visit the art museum. Throughout high school and college Lisa always made room in her schedule for art and ceramics, even though these courses were not related to her field of study. Lisa graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. She became a Board Certified, Registered Pharmacist, yet art would always remain an important part of Lisa’s life. Today, Lisa’s artistic journey continues. She remains passionate about and dedicated to her oil painting endeavor every day, right alongside her work as a Consultant Pharmacist. In 2022, after submitting her portfolio to the Wickford Art Association Jury process, Lisa was accepted as a Juried Artist Member. “It means a great deal to me to have been juried in. It’s a real honor to join this group of respected Juried Artists, and to be represented by this highly celebrated organization of 60 years!”
