An Artful Arrangement: Painting the Still Life in Pastel

Jeanne Tangney
Friday & Saturday, August 3 & 4
2 - Day Workshop
9 AM - 4 PM
Still lifes are much more than a collection of objects. A story can be told by the selected subjects and the space they occupy. Establishing a mood supports this narrative. In this workshop, we will study how to create the illusion of depth and atmosphere while learning the importance of values, form, edges and color. We will also explore the technical aspects of setting up a still life, lighting concerns, tips for accurate drawing, and guidelines for interesting compositions. Students will receive plenty of individualized instruction to help them reach their personal goals. Prior drawing and painting experience will be useful, but all levels are encouraged to participate in this workshop. Although demos will be in pastel, oil painters are also welcome as many of the concepts are common in both media.

in multi mediums including watercolor, oil, acrylic & pastel
with Bill Lane & Anthony Tomaselli

Fridays, June 1 - 22
(4 classes, rain date of 6/29 if needed)
9 AM - 4 PM
Contemporary oil painter Anthony Tomaselli and watercolorist Bill Lane join forces to lead a unique collaborative Plein Air painting workshop in Wickford this June.
Students will be treated to the knowledge, wisdom and talents of two extraordinary artists. 'Oil & Water' offers two very different approaches to both traditional and expressionistic painting. Witness as these two artists capture the same scene - Anthony in oil and Bill in watercolor - side by side. Brush up on your watercolor techniques, hone in on your oil skills or capture Wickford using the medium of your choice. Whichever you choose, planning and composition get you started while passion guides you through the process.
Wickford offers a huge variety of subject matter for your creative spirit. Whether your goal is capturing buildings, land, sea, sky and/or people, this class and these distinctly diverse instructors have it all covered. There is nothing quite like the magic of creating on location with shifting light, weather and life!
Demonstration: Each class begins with a 'Dueling Demo', Same scene, Two mediums, Two points of view.
Critiques: 3:00 - 4:00 pm at Wickford Art Association or on location.

Textile Art Designs

Ann Bianchi

Fabrics from natural cellulose fibers (cottons and silks) will be our "canvases" as we experiment with historical and cultural dyeing and resist methods. Working in the styles of Arashi Shibori, Itajime Shibori and Adire Elesso, we will add colors to white cloth for fantastic results. A beautifully prepared cloth may be constructed into a wearable item or perhaps framed as a piece of art, or a wall hanging. In this workshop I will provide multiple demonstrations, and offer guidance on suggested final product applications. Be prepared to be amazed with your results, have fun and witness colors merging together as they take on a life of their own! Work with varieties of fabrics within each method and observe countless outcomes. Samples of completed work and step-by-step instructions will guide participants. No prior experience needed.
