Mother, grandmother, artist, seamstress, crafter, photographer
Gina Campbell was raised in Wickford, and discovered her creativity at the age of 11, when she found her grandmother’s old Singer sewing machine in the garage. Her first outfit was ridiculous, but she wore it proudly!
As far back as she can remember, she had a camera in hand – from Polaroid to Instamatic to Minolta medium format – but it was in 2009, when she got her first DSLR, that she was truly bitten by the photo bug. That’s when Gina got serious about learning the craft, signing up for every class and workshop she could find.
Gina’s work has been shown in the Mystic Museum of Art, Wickford Art Association, The Courthouse Center for the Arts, The Newport Flower Show, and the Bill Krul Gallery. Her photographs have been published in Yankee Magazine’s Summer Travel Guide to New England (2018); South County Health Calendar (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018); and South County Life Magazine (cover photo, 2017).
Gina has also won many photography awards, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mentions from the South County Tourism Council; and Best New Exhibitor and 1st place awards in the Photography Division of the Newport Flower Show (2015 & 2016).
She graduated from Framingham State College in 1979 with a BS in Textiles, and owned a knitting store in Wakefield for 10 years, receiving a Best of Rhode Island Award from Rhode Island Monthly Magazine in 2005.
Gina is also currently co-chair of Wickford Art Association’s Photographic Arts Group.
“I am inspired by anything colorful – color, textiles, landscapes, boats, sunrises and sunsets – and by my grandson! Children just being themselves are some of my favorite subjects.”
