Pyrography is the art of drawing with a heated metal-tipped pen. Unlike paint, ink or graphite that sits on top of the canvas or paper, burning significantly alters the surface much like etching or engraving. It combines the sharp crisp details of pen & ink with softness of charcoal to create unique sepia-toned qualities unlike any other medium. Every stroke counts and there is no erasing.
Cate McCauley will be giving a presentation on Tuesday April 10th about pyrography, how she creates her work and bringing her equipment so you can try it for yourself (free and open to the public). She is a native Rhode Islander and lifelong artist. In November 2017, Cate became a Juried Art Member at Wickford Art Association. She is also an elected member of the Art League of Rhode Island. Stop by Wickford Art Association's front gallery to see Cate's work during the month of April.
